Assignment 5.0 Research Paper

Assignment 5.0 was a research paper on a trend within the design profession. i chose to do my paper on LEED and its effectiveness. LEED has become very popular but many critics argue that it is not a true measure of sustainability. my research led me to look at the holistic picture that LEED creates. while it certainly shouldn't be the only way we measure a sustainable building, it does help to create awareness for sustainable design. in turn, negative criticism of the LEED rating system pushes it to become better and makes people aware that it isn't the only way to rate a building.

Assignment 4.0 Networking

For assignment 4.0 we had to attend two professional networking events. i went to the avenues event at the gatewood studio arts building and the WithIt mentoring event at high point furniture market. i received quite a bit of information at both events but i felt that the Withit event was the more helpful of the two events. This was mainly because i had changed my career path by the time i attended the withit event. at furniture market i was able to get in touch with professionals who are sales representatives, which is what i would like to do.

Assignment 3.0 Group Marketing Package

for our firm marketing package we assigned each member different tasks. I was assigned to the task of creating a business card. Below is one of my prototypes for business cards. i think it is very successful even though we did not end up using it.

Assignment 2.0 Self-Marketing Package

This is the self marketing package that i turned in for assignment 2.0. i was fairly pleased with this portfolio. i didn't like the table of contents but i didn't really know what else to do for it. since then i have changed it though. during the avenues event i received some feedback about the portfolio from rob easton of davis furniture. he said that he would like to see more hand sketches in the portfolio.

for our first assignment we had to hand in a one page cover letter, resume and one page portfolio to travis. for my portfolio i choose to use several images from successful project's i've had over the years. the left side of the page includes two images. one is from my final project for iar-411 and the other is a picture of my prototype final for iar-301. on the right hand side i included an image of the site model i worked on for iar-411, a successful graphic design project, an autocad drawing of a piece of furniture i designed, and a photo i took of the lightbox my group created for tina's lighting class. mainly i just wanted to showcase that i had a wide range of talents.
